Why I Created Quiltcritic

I’m a nerd married to a passionate — and, as far as I can tell, highly skilled — quilter.

Like many of you, I enjoy creating something new — you make quilts, I build technical projects. I wanted to develop something where artificial intelligence could play a creative role. When I asked an AI to review a few of my wife An’s quilts, the results were surprisingly entertaining. I thought: maybe others would also find it interesting to have their work reviewed by AI — anonymously and just for fun.

That’s how Quiltcritic.com was born. For now, it’s free; my main goal is to learn what users think of it. Does it work well? What could be improved? Which features would be desirable — for example, a Like button, comments on quilts, or maybe even a chat function between users?

The AI itself is still a work in progress. Right now, it tends to give overly positive reviews. In the future, I want to teach it better distinctions between good, average, and less successful work.

What I especially hope is that you’ll share your feedback using the button at the top of the screen. That way, I can continue to improve and expand the site — step by step, just like a quilt slowly takes shape from many small pieces.
